The 'European Universities' initiative is promoted and funded by the European Union, through the Erasmus+ programme, and aims to strengthen strategic alliances between universities in the European Union (EU) and increase international competitiveness within the European Higher Education Area. The Partnerships created cooperate in education, research and innovation for the benefit of students, teachers and society.
In July 2023, the UCLM managed to join the European University Alliance thanks to the award of the project called "COLlaborative innOvative sUstainable Regional UniverSities" (COLOURS), which builds a global campus integrated by nine universities, and which is aligned with four of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): namely health and well-being, food production, green transition and information technologies and digitisation.
